Aaron Shearer Summer Institute brings classical guitar concerts to Springdale
By Joyce Hartless
Each year, the Aaron Shearer Summer Institute comes to Zion Canyon for a week of classical guitar instruction. Z-Arts is honored to host two concerts that week for the institute.
On Aug. 3, Armenian guitarist and guest instructor Gohar Vardanyan will perform at 8 p.m. Widely admired for her technique and artistry, Vardanyan has performed throughout the United States, Armenia, Panama, Italy, and Canada. She holds a master’s degree in music from the Juilliard School where she studied with Sharon Isbin. Vardanyan will perform works by Fernando Sor, Augustine Barrios, Isaac Albeniz, Enrique Granados, and Manual deFalla. The program is expected be about 90 minutes long.
On Aug. 4 at 7:30 p.m., the student ensembles and student orchestra will perform Debussy’s “the Girl with the Flaxen Hair,” A. Hirsh’s “Into the Suite,” Billock and Hedges’s “Fingerstyle Suite,” and Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins, Op. 3, No. 8 with violinists Eli Wrankle and Chris Quick. Locals will recognize Wrankle as the violinist for 3hattrio.
Both performances will be held at the Canyon Community Center, located at 126 Lion Blvd. in Springdale. To learn more, visit zarts.org.
