St. George Races

As part of St. George Races (SGR), St. George City will host the 8th annual Midnight 5K on May 22 at 11 p.m. Offering views of the entire city, this spectacular course will be run at the former municipal airport. “Brighten the Night” is the theme of this year’s race, and the runway will be glowing, including, t-shirts, awards, and all of the amazing giveaways.

“It is phenomenal to see and be a part of a glowing mass of people heading down the old airport runway on a beautiful calm summer night,” said race coordinator Aaron Metler. “St. George is known for its mild winters and its scorching summers. In May, the best time to run is early morning or late night, and that’s why we wanted to bring this fun event to the late night. Schools are out and the weather is perfect, and this ends up being a perfect family late night event. After the race, there is a DJ and a family-fun afterparty that keeps the fun going even longer. The (glowing) theme, fun, and fitness are all combined, making this an incredible experience!”

Having started in St. George with the establishing of the St. George Marathon, SGR now puts on 15 events annually. Over the last decade, their races have multiplied exponentially, with participation up nearly 900 percent (excluding the marathon). SGR is recognized worldwide for organizing some of the most memorable and diverse races in the nation. Paying attention to the details that make races a memorable event for the runners, the sponsors and all who are involved in these exciting, energy-filled events are key. Promoting health, encouraging recreation, and having fun are infused into the races.

Referring to the Midnight 5K, Metler said, “We encourage people to wear costumes and bring their entire family to this event. This event encompasses all age groups and abilities, and we welcome anyone to come out and experience the fun!”
