By Jo-Ann Merrill

Arrowhead Gallery ETC’s featured artists for November are Barry Gray and Mel Scott. Please join them at the gallery for a featured artist reception Nov. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Gray has been a wood turner for approximately five years. Most of his training came from his membership with the Southern Utah Woodturners Association in Cedar City. He also is a member of The American Association of Woodturners and the Las Vegas Woodturners Association. One is always learning “Learning through turning.” Most of his wood is “fog” wood, which is found on the ground. To quote Kurt Herzog, “The magic is not in the tools or the turners hands. The magic is inside the wood that we turn.”

Scott works in all media. She received an associate’s degree from Dixie College and a bachelor’s degree from SUU. She was the founder and first president and is currently a charter member of the Dixie Watercolor Society, is active in Gallery 35, and is a member of the Southern Utah Arts Council. She is involved with the Sears Invitational Art Show and currently teaches classes in watercolor and drawing at DSU Community Education. Scott is designing fashions for a worldwide company, Shop Vida, which is a humanitarian project to feed, house, and educate those in need around the globe.
