Celebrity Concert Series joe trioBy Steve Lemmon

The Celebrity Concert Series will present the Joe Trio, not your average piano trio, March 23. They resist neat categorization, instead striving for diversity, versatility, and more than a little humor and unpredictability. The group’s repertoire consists of the classics (from Papa Haydn to Uncle Shostakovich), new works by contemporary composers, and their own arrangements of popular jazz and rock tunes. And they’re not afraid to mix together so many styles of music into a single piece that it makes your head spin. More than virtuosic, the trio’s members are fantastic performers who engage the audience in a way few classical musicians can. Amply witty, charming, and tremendously musical, Joe Trio leaves audiences with a new appreciation for classical music.

In the 2017/18 season, vocalist Lexi Mae Walker will perform with the DSU symphony orchestra. GENTRI will return to DSU bringing their acclaimed holiday concert, “Finding Christmas.” The Doo Wop Project, comprising Broadway stars, will take us back to the golden era of music with their tight harmonies. We will have classical offerings from Shuffle and the world-renowned ATOS Trio. Balancing out the season will be the astonishing feats of the Golden Dragon Acrobats, BYU’s beloved Young Ambassadors, Utah’s own Joshua Creek, and a few more surprises to be announced.

Season tickets will go on sale March 6. Please visit celebrityconcertseries.com for information regarding ticket packages and pricing. Tickets for BYU’s Men’s Chorus and Joe Trio can be purchased at the DSU box office, by calling (435) 652-7800, or online at dsutix.com.
