The long-awaited return to Mesquite for the Long Drivers Association is no longer a mystery. Thanks to local partners such as GolfMesquiteNevada, Eureka Casino/Resort, and Rising Star Resort, the most popular stop for players and fans is now back in Mesquite June 3–6 at the Mesquite Regional Sports and Athletic Complex.

Historically, competitors have always complimented the condition of the grid Mesquite has, which includes the flattest, most consistent turf on any of their 13 tour stops. This year, Mesquite and its sponsors have the opportunity to offer the competitors and the Golf Channel a glimpse into what makes Mesquite a great place for this very popular event. The Golf Channel chose Mesquite because of its storied past hosting the World Long Drive Championships from 1997–2012. Several of the competitors have requested an event and/or championships to be held in Mesquite again because of its facility and local environment. Local sponsors have been cohesively working with the Golf Channel to get this back to Mesquite for over eight months, so we hope that the competition is once again a great success. Mesquite, Denver, and the finals in Oklahoma are the only qualifying and tour events that are scheduled to be aired live on the Golf Channel.

Golf Channel has named the event “Clash in the Canyon” to focus of the history of the long-drive championships that have been held in Mesquite for 15 years. Due to this special event, Golf Channel will be broadcasting live coverage of the finals event for both the women and open division on June 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Due to the magnification of the history of the event, there will be a special “Masters” division to allow the older generation of players an opportunity to win cash money as well. This event, along with a “last chance” qualifier, will all be televised June 6.

The Rising Star, Mesquite’s newest resort destination, will host a sponsor’s meet and greet along with a welcome reception the night of June 4 before the events kick off June 5. Eureka will host a poker tournament as well for all event participants. The Oasis Golf Club will host a pro-am for all sponsors and players to show off their skills on an actual golf course guarded by 100-foot canyon walls, vistas, and houses. Personally, the pro-am is the best event to participate in as anyone will be in awe of how talented these competitors really are hitting a ball consistently in places you could never imagine playing from.

The event itself is held at the Mesquite Regional Sports and Athletic Complex located off exit 120 towards Sun City Mesquite. Admission is free, but if you would like to attend the live event June 6, that event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Local sponsorship from Eureka Casino, Rising Star Resort, and GolfMesquiteNevada has driven the Golf Channel back to the home of the Long Drive.
