Archaeologist David Van Alfen will be presenting, “A Place for Everything: The Organization of Activities in the Prehistoric World,” at the Zion Canyon Field Institute in Springdale located at 126 Lion Blvd, on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Van Alfen is an archaeologist at Grand Canyon- Parashant National Monument. He will be talking about activities in the prehistoric world. Structures, like tools, are usually created with a specific purpose in mind, primarily the organization of activities. However, also much like tools, structures are often “repurposed” during their lifespan, indicating changes in activity organization that could have demographic, social, or religious reasons and implications. He will examine the changes in Virgin Anasazi structures and site organization over time in order to explore the implications of architectural change.

The Zion Canyon Field Institute’s Fern and J.L. Crawford Lecture Series is a collaborative presentation of ZCFI and the Division of Resource Management in Zion National Park. For more information please call 435 772 3264. Lectures are free and open to the public.
