Conserve Southwest Utah (formerly Citizens for Dixie’s Future) and Citizens’ Climate Lobby have created a partnership in St. George. The partnership will blend Conserve Southwest Utah’s interest in air quality and related energy policy and climate impacts with Citizens’ Climate Lobby’s interest in policy solutions for climate change. The partnership will focus on education and communications concerning human-caused climate change and policies to significantly reduce it using volunteers from both organizations.
“This partnership makes a lot of sense”, said Tom Butine, board president of Conserve Southwest Utah. “All of our conservation efforts here in Southwest Utah and around the world will be a lost cause if we fail to address climate change. Utah, with its abundance of fossil fuels, its reliance on them for energy, and its political mission to continue mining, burning, and exporting them in spite of the economic and environmental damage offers a great opportunity.”
“CCL’s concentration on the economics of climate change and market-driven solutions for it should get traction in the technology business-friendly area that St George is trying to become,” said Bill Barron, Citizens’ Climate Lobby coordinator for the region covering the mountain states and an unaffiliated candidate running for Utah Senator on the single platform of climate change.
“CSU, the largest and most active conservation organization in Southwest Utah with its history of advocating clean energy and clean air, makes it the perfect partner for a CCL chapter here,” said Citizens’ Climate Lobby Doug Rollins who will co-chair the St. George chapter with Butine.
