Conserve Southwest Utah and Citizens Climate Lobby sponsor climate change forumConserve Southwest Utah and Citizens Climate Lobby will co-sponsor a climate change forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 21. The forum will be held at the Washington County Library Branch in Washington City, located at 220 N 300 E, and is free and open to the public. The main entrance to the library is locked at 7 p.m. Arrivals after that time will be admitted via the side door on left side of the building.

This event will provide a reasoned, educational discussion and an open question-and-answer forum about climate change for the citizens of southwestern Utah.

Panelists will include the following:

—Dr. Robert Davies, PhD, climate scientist, state coordinator, Utah Climate Center, Utah State University.

—Dr. Doug Rollins, PhD, MD, University of Utah professor emeritus, CCL Southwestern Utah Chapter co-leader.

—Bill Barron, CCL regional leader, non-affiliated candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Davies will give a presentation on the science of climate change and, with the other panelists, will answer questions from the audience and engage in a conversation about climate change, its causes, and solutions.

Davies is a Utah-trained physicist and educator who does entertaining forecasts from the Utah Climate Center on Utah Public Radio. Arriving at Utah State University in 1991, Davies studied upper atmospheric physics and electrical interactions between spacecraft and the near-Earth space environment. He has worked for NASA as a U.S.–Russian scientific liaison on the International Space Station project. He worked as a project scientist for USU’s Space Dynamics Laboratory and an officer and meteorologist in the United States Air Force. He has been a faculty member of three universities.

He has published work in the fields of spacecraft-environment interactions, quantum optics, and climate. Davies has been with the Utah Climate Center since 2009.
