The star of any Thanksgiving meal (besides that huge turkey) is, of course, the Thanksgiving pie. This year, Village Inn (one of America’s big restaurant retailers of holiday pies) has decided to have some fun and release the following statistics about America’s love affair with pie.

Go ahead and enjoy these fun pastry factoids with a glass of milk and a warm slice of your favorite pie – you know you deserve it, and it’s never too late to warm up your tummy for that impending Thanksgiving feast!

DID YOU KNOW…

ONE IN FIVE AMERICANS has eaten an entire pie by themselves.

113 MILLION AMERICANS have eaten pie for breakfast.

6 MILLION AMERICAN MEN ages 35-54 have eaten the last slice of pie and denied it.

90 PERCENT OF AMERICANS agree that a slice of pie represents one of life’s simple pleasures.

WHEN ASKED WHAT DESSERT they’d like their guests to bring for holiday dinner, 29 percent of Americans chose pie (17 percent wanted cake and 15 percent preferred cookies).

IN RANKING THEIR FAVORITE PIES, 19 percent of Americans favor apple, 13 percent like pumpkin, 12 percent prefer pecan, 10 percent love banana cream and 9 percent choose cherry.

PIE PERSONALITY: According to Village Inn, the type of pie you crave says a lot about your personality. Apple pie lovers are independent, realistic and compassionate; pecan pie aficionados are thoughtful and analytical; chocolate pie cravers are loving; and pumpkin pie fans are funny and independent.

ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE… Since 47 percent of Americans find pies “comforting,” Village Inn is launching a new campaign called “Serving Those Who Serve Us” in recognition of local first responders who serve and comfort their communities and can’t be home during the holidays. Village Inn Restaurants are asking their communities to nominate first responders who exemplify the holiday spirit. Winners will receive free pies for the holidays, delivered right to their police or fire stations, hospitals and other workplaces.

Contact your local Village Inn for more information about “Serving Those Who Serve Us” or to nominate a first responder in your area.
