Downtown St. George hosts biggest Independence Day celebration yet

Bigger and better celebrations signal downtown growth and participation. This year, the 4th of July celebration is being held in multiple locations to accommodate the growth of the event. Vernon Worthen Park, Town Square Park, and the Sunbowl will each be utilized to accommodate the increased activities. Whether you want to run the Uncle Sam 5K, enjoy breakfast, watch the parade, show your watermelon seed spitting skills, catch the “St. George’s Got Talent” show, participate in the fun and games extravaganza, experience the hot dog eating contest, attend the concert in the Sunbowl, or finish the night off with a giant fireworks display, the biggest and best 4th of July celebration is happening downtown. Festivities begin the night before at 6 p.m. in conjunction with the second George First Friday Streetfest.

Here’s a schedule of activities and events for the weekend.

July 3, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
Parade float preview, Uncle Sam 5K packet pickup, and food trucks at the Ridge Top Complex. Located at George Streetfest.

July 4, 6:30 a.m.
Uncle Sam 5K 

8 a.m.
City of St. George Fourth of July Celebration Parade. Line the surrounding streets of Vernon Worthen Park for this patriotic spectacle! Entering a float or group is free! Awards will be given in the staging area so that floats can carry their award winning banners in the parade.

9-10 a.m.
Watermelon seed spitting, sack races, and spoon races w/brackets

9:20 a.m.
National Anthem at the main stage in Vernon Worthen Park

9:30 a.m.
St. George’s Got Talent at the main stage in Vernon Worthen Park. Scavenger hunt.

9:45-10:30 a.m.
Zumba at the St. George Recreation Center 

9:45 – 10:45 am
Contest to be announced at Vernon Worthen Park 

9:45-2 p.m.
City of St. George Independence Day Fun and Games Extravaganza! Bring the whole family for a fun day in the park. Many activities are free. There will be music, food booths, face painting, cotton candy, a watermelon seed spitting contest, potato sack races, bounce houses, water wars, dunk tank, our famous hundred-foot Slip-n-Slide, and a few new surprises! New this year will be indoor activities offered at the St. George Recreation Center, including extreme dodgeball, kids crafts corner, and human foosball! Brad Harr and associates present games at Town Square: beanbag toss, cornhole, gaga ball, multi-player frisbee toss, and many others. Canyon Media presents vendor booth games in the park, including plinko, spin the wheel, balloon darts, and many others.

Sunbowl festivities: KONY hot dog roast, game show, frozen T-shirt, hoola hoop, egg toss, life time hoop shoot, karaoke, dunk tank, football toss, shirt cannon shoot, color guard performance, National Anthem, Wolf Creek Band, and fireworks

8-10 p.m.
KONY Country Presents free concert at Dixie Sunbowl

10 p.m.
A spectacular fireworks display will begin at approximately 10 p.m. KONY Radio will broadcast live at 8 p.m. and will also provide special musical accompaniment throughout the fireworks display.
