After taking a production to the Fringe Festival in Scotland and placing as finalists in the American College Theatre Festival for Region 8 last year, Dixie State University Theatre students are ready to capture the hearts of the Southern Utah community once more. DSU Theatre invites you to experience their best lineup of live theatre productions yet, with the talent to match.

DSU Theatre will perform “Much Ado About Nothing,” “Amadeus,” “A Streetcar Named Desire,” and “Man of La Mancha” this season. Get your tickets now, as they are guaranteed to go fast for such a great season!

The season starts with a contemporary interpretation of “Much Ado About Nothing,” one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies. Written around 1598, the play is about a young woman wrongly accused of being unchaste, who is later reconciled with her accusing lover. It is also about a second couple, Beatrice and Benedick, witty, bright individuals who swear they will never fall in love. “Much Ado About Nothing” will run Sept. 18-20 and 23-27 in the Eccles Black Box Theatre.

“Amadeus,” written by Peter Shaffer, explores the rivalry between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, the court composer for the Emperor of Austria, in the late 18th century. Critics have praised the play’s craftsmanship and its penetrating psychological study of the effects of success and failure, and the search for spirituality. “Amadeus” will be performed Nov. 6-8 and 11-15 in the Eccles Mainstage Theatre.

Widely considered a landmark play, “A Streetcar Named Desire” deals with the culture clash between two symbolic characters, Blanche DuBois, a pretentious, fading relic of the Old South, and Stanley Kowalski, a rising member of the industrial, urban immigrant class. Tennessee Williams’ classic will be performed Jan. 29-31 and Feb. 3-7 in the Eccles Mainstage Theatre.

“Man of La Mancha” is a remarkable production, and one of the great theatre successes of our time. Based on the literary classic “Don Quixote,” this play-within-a-play tells the poignant story of a dying old man whose impossible dream takes over his mind. The stirring musical numbers will remain in your thoughts and in your soul well after you see the show. “Man of La Mancha” will run Feb. 26-28 and March 3-7 in the Eccles Mainstage Theatre.

Tickets cost $10 for general admission, or $5 for all Washington County School District high school students and employees. Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more. Doors open at 7 p.m., and all productions start promptly at 7:30 p.m. The Black Box and Mainstage Theatres are located in the Eccles Fine Art Center on the DSU campus in downtown St. George.
