“Saguaro Light” by Erin Hanson

Erin Hanson’s Painted Parks collection of landscapes will remain on display in St. George Art Museum’s main gallery through May 28. The works are inspired by her many travels and explorations across our great national parks and is on display in honor or the National Park Services centennial celebration.

The pieces found in this collection feature several of Hanson’s favorite travel spots: Arches National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Park, and Glacier National Park, among others.

Erin Hanson St. George Art Museum“This collection of National Park paintings has been in the process of creation since I was a young girl growing up in Los Angeles.  When I was a child, I would look forward eagerly every year to escaping the ordinary routine of city life and having the opportunity to explore the great outdoors.  I remember laying on my back under these impossibly tall pine trees, after hiking all day to reach a forested peak in the Angeles Crest National Forest.  All I could hear was the surprisingly loud and changing melody of the wind moving through the pine boughs. I was only one day away from my concrete-lined home life, but it felt like an entirely different world.”

Hanson will donate 10 percent of proceeds from the sale of her exhibited contemporary impressionist paintings towards the preservation of Zion National Park, the closest national park to St. George and a location that has inspired dozens of works.

“National Parks are a treasure we can’t afford to neglect,” stated the artist. “My park landscapes are more than artistic expressions: they are an invitation to enjoy, protect and preserve these amazing natural resources for future generations.”

The St. George Art Museum is located at 47 E 200 N in St. George.
