SATURDAY ABOVE 8000 FEET…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SALT LAKE CITY HAS ISSUED A
WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS…WHICH IS
IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THURSDAY TO 4 AM MST SATURDAY.

* AFFECTED AREA…THE WASATCH AND WESTERN UINTA MOUNTAINS…THE
WASATCH PLATEAU AND BOOK CLIFFS…AS WELL AS THE CENTRAL AND
SOUTHERN MOUNTAINS OF UTAH.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…12 TO 24 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS
POSSIBLE.

* TIMING…SNOW WILL DEVELOP LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON…THEN BECOME
HEAVY AT TIMES THURSDAY NIGHT INTO THE DAY FRIDAY BEFORE
TAPERING OFF FRIDAY NIGHT.

* SNOW LEVELS…REMAINING ABOVE 8000 FEET THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING
BEFORE LOWERING FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

* WINDS…WEST TO SOUTHWEST WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS IN
EXCESS OF 60 MPH ARE EXPECTED THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY
MORNING.

* IMPACTS…WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS ALL
MOUNTAIN ROUTES ABOVE 8000 FEET…INCLUDING WOLF CREEK
PASS…SKYLINE DRIVE ALONG THE WASATCH PLATEAU…AND STATE
ROUTES 14 AND 143.

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR A PORTION OF SOUTHERN UTAH…INCLUDING
THE FOLLOWING AREAS…SOUTH CENTRAL UTAH…SOUTHERN MOUNTAINS
AND UTAHS DIXIE AND ZION NATIONAL PARK.

* FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING

* AN UNSEASONABLY MOIST AIRMASS WILL CONTINUE TO FILTER INTO THE
REGION DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. MEANWHILE AN APPROACHING STRONG
STORM SYSTEM WILL RAMP UP SOUTHERLY WINDS…ENHANCING RAINFALL
ON SOUTHERN SLOPES.

* FLASH FLOODING OF NORMALLY DRY WASHES…SLOT CANYONS…SMALL
RIVERS AND URBAN AREAS IS POSSIBLE.
