Attention southern Utah filmmakers, “The Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge” returns! And it’s the 10th anniversary! In honor of this particular milestone, organizers are throwing a couple of little additions into the mix that they hope will shake things up a bit. This is how the 10th Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge will work:
Those interested in taking part, must attend a brief “Theme Reveal Meeting.” The meeting will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. in the parking lot right behind The Electric Theater (68 E. Tabernacle). At this meeting, a theme will be revealed, along with a list of guidelines. Filmmakers will have until Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 9 p.m. to finish their short film projects using any resources available to them.
There is a $30 submission fee per film. This fee must be paid during the Theme Reveal Meeting. The majority of the fees collected will be offered up as a cash prize for the best short film. All of the submissions will be screened during “Horror-Fest” (venue, date, and time TBA).
Filmmaking is an amazing form of creative expression, and the goal with the Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge is not only to encourage novice and experienced artists of all ages but also to give local filmmakers a nice big venue where they can showcase their work. One of the most fulfilling aspects of filmmaking is sharing a collaborative effort with a packed house and feeling the collective energy an enthusiastic audience exudes as they experience something you had a hand in creating. Simply put, it’s magic. There’s really no other way to describe it. Come on out and be a part of that magic.
This promises to be a very special Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge; not only is this a 10th anniversary celebration, but through “Guerilla” and “Horror-Fest,” organizer’s also hope to raise money for the All Abilities Park at Tonaquint currently under construction.
So spread the word! And on a final note, if you’ve never made a short film before, don’t be shy. This filmmaking platform is opened to everyone.
