BYU student Kaden Larson gives piano recital at DSU

Kaden Larson will give a piano recital Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The recital we be held in the Eccles Concert Hall at Dixie State University and is free and open to the public.

Larson will perform throughout the state of Utah during the coming months. A native of Utah, Larson began playing the piano at the age of three as a therapeutic activity to fight a severely crippling case of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Initially, he began his piano studies with his mother and then began formal piano lessons at the age of four with Tricia West. Later, he studied with Chad Schumacher.

Larson has performed many concerts and recitals throughout Utah, including at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City. He has performed with the Lyceum Repertory Orchestra of American Fork, the Oquirrh Mountain Symphony, and the Symphony Orchestra of Brigham Young University. He has been a member of and accompanist for the BYU Men’s Chorus and the BYU Concert Choir. He has been a prizewinner in many piano competitions including the Oquirrh Mountain Symphony Concerto Competition and the UMTA Concerto Competition. He has also received honors at the MTNA state-level piano competition. Since 2008, Kaden has studied piano with Dr. Scott Holden at Brigham Young University. He just completed a term of study in Vienna. A junior in piano performance at BYU, he is currently serving as president of the BYU Student Chapter of the Music Teachers National Association.

Other upcoming piano events for the DSU music department include a solo recital by Brandon Lee on Oct. 26, a duo piano recital by Brandon Lee and Christopher Giles on Nov. 1, and the DSU Piano Ensemble Concert on Nov. 30.
