Attendees of the Kanab Writers Conference — held Nov. 7, 8, and 9 at the new Kanab Center — will receive a $25 discount when they use the code “ABRAKANABRA” during registration. This is in addition to the $25 early bird discount earned by registering before Oct. 1.

The Kanab Writers Conference is wonderful for beginners and accomplished writers alike. It will feature classes for beginners and accomplished writers alike. Successful published writers will teach craft basics as well as advanced craft, poetry, motivation, marketing, nonfiction, and memoir. The cozy ambience makes it a non-threatening introduction for newbies as well as a great networking venue for published authors.

Unique to the Kanab Writers Conference is the afternoon hike and plein air writing experience in the colorful desert landscape Nov. 7. That evening, writers will be able to choose to attend a retreat-like writing venue or a critique party.

The morning of Nov. 8 will be devoted to workshops on the nuts and bolts of self publishing. The full writers’ conference will begin with lunch on Friday followed by four breakout sessions of four classes each followed by the evening keynote, Lee Nelson. The author of over 30 books, Nelson is widely known for killing a bull buffalo from the back of a galloping horse with a bow and arrow, a research project for his “Storm Testament” series of historical novels on the old West. Nelson’s books have sold over a million copies.

The morning of Nov. 9 will begin with a keynote by Lisa Mangum followed by four more breakout sessions. Mangum has worked in publishing since 1997. She has been the managing editor for Shadow Mountain since 2014 and has worked with several New York Times best-selling authors, including Brandon Mull, Ally Condie, and Jason F. Wright. Lisa is also the author of four national best-selling young adult novels.

Both Nelson and Mangum will teach classes at the conference. Mangum will also host pitch sessions for writers who have a manuscript ready to sell. Attendees can sign up for appointments at registration.
