Kayenta presents the fantasmarific musical “James and the Giant Peach”
By Merrie Campbell-Lee
The Center for the Arts at Kayenta is proud to present a musical made for young and old, and by them, too! Experienced actors and young novices will collaborate in an inspiring performance of “James and the Giant Peach.” Performances will take place June 27–29 at 7:30 p.m., and June 29 at 2 p.m.
In this captivating musical, James is sent to live with his two terrible aunts, Spiker and Sponge. One day, he meets a strange man, and they create a concoction that produces magical crocodile tongues. James soon finds himself in the center of a giant peach among human-sized insects with oversized personalities! The group faces hunger, disagreements, and sharks! As James travels in the peach, his new friends help him feel part of a family again. Will James’ quick thinking save them all? Can they find their way home? Let us take you away with a bit of silliness, laughter, and even sweetness.
The weekends prior to the musical, students of our musical theater workshop will rehearse at the beautiful Center for the Arts at Kayenta. Adult cast members of “James and the Giant Peach” will contribute to the workshop, offering a thrilling theater experience. Song, dance, makeup application, audition mentoring, backstage tech — it’s all part of a performance and tech camp that immerses students in all aspects of putting on a high caliber performance. The public is also invited to submit art inspired by Roald Dahl’s classic tale in our “James & The Giant Peach Art Expo.” See details for both the camp and expo at kayentaarts.com under “Arts Education.”
Tickets are $20 and $10 for students. Purchase tickets at kayentaarts.com, or call the box office at (435) 674-2787. The Center for the Arts at Kayenta 881 Coyote Gulch Ct. in Ivins.
