Recognized among her peer members of Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honor society, Dixie State University student Kelsey Jetter recently won Best Paper Presentation for Media and Popular Studies at the society’s 2016 international convention. Additionally, DSU’s Alpha Pi Epsilon chapter placed second in the Outstanding Chapter Displays contest.

Jetter received a $600 cash prize for her essay “Liminal Gutter: Reader Identification & Persepolis” at the convention.

“I can say without reservation that our students stack up at the top of these elite students who are accepted to present at this convention,” said DSU English professor Dr. Ami Comeford. “We also have one of the highest rates of acceptance for students to present at the convention.”

Along with Jetter, 12 other DSU students were accepted to present their work at the convention, 10 of whom were able to attend. Prior to being invited to present, the students’ work went through a rigorous review process from English faculty from all over the country.

The DSU chapter was also invited to participate in the Outstanding Chapter Displays. Each year, the national organization invites about 10 exceptional chapters from around the country to put up a display to showcase their activities, events and services. DSU placed second in this category this year.

“Our chapter of Sigma Tau Delta is a particularly active club on campus, and amongst our national and international peers, we are well known for our high academic achievement and solid student research and original creative work,” Comeford said.

Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society founded at Dakota Wesleyan University in 1924. The society’s central purpose is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies.
