In a case that some former member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS) say could bring the organization down, Kimball Dee Barlow, the final suspect at large, turned himself in Tuesday morning around 9:30. Barlow, who will have his first court hearing on Wednesday, managed the FLDS warehouse.
Lyle Jeffs, who ran the church for his brother, Warren Jeffs — currently imprisoned for sexually assaulting young women via underage marriages — was arrested with several other church leaders on Feb. 23. Among those arrested on that day was another of Warren Jeffs’ brothers, Seth Jeffs, who ran a congregation in South Dakota.
Five of the suspects have since been released from custody under order to adhere to GPS monitoring: Winford Johnson Barlow, 50; Kristal Meldrum Dutson, 55; Ruth Peine Barlow, 41; Hyrum Bygnal Dutson, 55; and Preston Yates Barlow, 41. The remaining suspects have been deemed flight risks by federal prosecutors and are being held without bail.
A conference to assess the status of all suspects will be held in St. George’s U.S. District Court on March 22.
