As part of a national movement to elect Sen. Bernie Sanders as the next President of the United States in 2016, on Wednesday, July 29, at 7 p.m. southern Utah supporters of the candidate will host an organizing kickoff event at the home of Dorothy and Gary Engelman to do their part in growing this movement and creating a political revolution to promote true democracy and undermine corruption and financial manipulation of government.

At the local St. George “Gathering for Bernie Organizing Kickoff,” people will watch a live video message from Sen. Sanders and sign up to join teams that will organize locally and nationally throughout the 2016 campaign. Sanders will broadcast a live message about how a grassroots movement can take this country back from the billionaire class. Participants can sign up to volunteer and organize locally to elect Bernie Sanders and take democracy back from the millionaires and billionaires.

Sanders is a Democratic candidate serving his second Senatorial term, having previously served as mayor of Burlington, Vt. Sanders’ platform includes introducing legislation that helps workers and their families, bringing America up to par with nearly every other developed country in the world. He opposes NAFTA, CAFTA, the TPP, and other free trade agreements that reduce the number of jobs in America, reduce worker protections and lower wages. He wants to invest billions in repairing and improving the country’s infrastructure. Sanders also intends to overturn Citizens United and thoroughly addresses income inequality and poverty.

On his campaign website, berniesanders.com, Sanders says, “If you can believe it, between 2013 and 2015 the 14 wealthiest individuals in the country saw their net worth increase by over $157 billion dollars. We live in one of the wealthiest countries on earth – and yet children go hungry, veterans sleep out on the streets and senior citizens cannot afford their prescription drugs. This is what a rigged economic system looks like.”

The St. George “Gathering for Bernie” is one of more than 2,000 similar events happening nationwide, with more than 70,000 signed up to attend, making the kickoff the largest event of the 2016 election to date.

The event will be held at the Engelman’s home at 875 Rio Virgin Dr., Unit 207, in St. George. For more information, please contact Dorothy Engelman at [email protected] or (435) 879-1558.
