Mesquite Christian Academy opens with ribbon cutting
By Aloree Smith
The Mesquite Chamber of Commerce will welcome the Mesquite Christian Academy as a new chamber member with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Dec. 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. at 70 N. Yucca St. in Mesquite. The ceremonial ribbon will be cut by Mayor Allan Litman.
For years, school president Jeffrey Bird had a dream of opening a Christian school, and in the fall of 2017, he finally decided it was time. Thanks to numerous volunteers, on Sept. 4 the Mesquite Christian Academy opened its doors to the Mesquite community.
In March 2018, an informational meeting was held at the Holiday Inn with over 70 community members in attendance. The meeting showed that the community felt there was a need for such an institution. Over the following six months, a location for the school was secured, the building was remodeled, the administration was found, teachers were hired, curriculum and school supplies were purchased, and students were enrolled. What is normally accomplished in 18 months was accomplished in less than eight.
