On Wednesday, Feb. 18, The Independent reported that Eagle Point Resort was cutting back their normal operating hours as a result of the warmer-than-average temperatures. Instead of being open Thursday through Sunday, the resort was forced to close on Thursdays and Fridays. Fortunately, this was a brief change in schedule as a big snow storm came through on Saturday, Feb. 21. Eagle Point Ski Resort owner and CEO, Shane Gadbaw, told The Independent that with 14 new inches of snow, they are resuming normal operations.

“It’s shaping up to be a great weekend,” Gadbaw said.

The cause of the original pulling back of operations is largely due to the fact that all of the snow at Eagle Point is natural; they don’t have any snowmaking capabilities. So they are relying purely on Mother Nature to provide a good ride for their skiers. According to Gadbaw, it was the Monarch lift, which serves many of the resort’s most popular runs, that was the main source of the problem, but now they are back in business.

With what Eagle Point is calling “the return of winter,” they are offering several new promotions to skiers and snowboarders. Sunday lift tickets will be free for the remainder of the season for anyone willing to provide an email address to opt-in for their email announcements, and there is no limit on the use (including those who are already subscribers).

In addition, as a show of thanks to the Brian Head Ski Resort, which recently extended season pass privileges to Eagle Point season pass holders, Eagle Point wants to return the favor and honor Brian Head season passes every Thursday and Friday for the rest of the season.

“Take a break from your home mountain to experience the steepest terrain in southern Utah on Eagle Point’s Tushar Ridge,” Gadbow stated in a press release.

Finally, anyone who mentions the promo code “Winter is Back” will receive a 20 percent discount on lodging rates for any reservations made by the end of Wednesday, Feb. 25, for any Friday or Saturday night stays for the rest of the season. As always, kids 17 years old and younger ski and snowboard free with lodging packages. For lodging information and rates, visit www.eaglepointresort.com/content/lodging.
