The Orchestra of Southern Utah announced its 2016–17 season, “Musical Legacy” to be performed at the Heritage Center in Cedar City, Utah.
On Oct. 13, the first concert of the series is “American Legacy,” conducted by Carylee Zwang. The concert will include Cedar High School’s Advanced Orchestra and Southern Utah University’s Jazz Band as well as the OSU. The program includes “Hoe Down” from Aaron Copland’s “Rodeo,” and Italian composer Ennio Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe” from the 1983 film, “The Mission” will feature principal Oboist Brad Gregory.
On November 10, Adam Lambert will conduct a concert called “Natural Legacy.” Highlights include Vivaldi’s “Autumn” from “The Four Seasons” featuring concertmaster Heather Wilhelm, Leo Delibes’ “Flower Duet,” and Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony.
On Dec. 11 and 12, the OSU will perform Handel’s “Messiah.”
On Feb. 11, the annual Children’s Jubilee matinee, “Create Your Own Legacy,” will feature music, art, and science activities for kids.
On February 23, Xun Sun will conduct a concert called “Creative Legacy.” The concert includes the world premiere of “Valley of Enchantment” by Mark Dal Porto, commissioned by the OSU, and Christian Bohnenstengel will be featured as the soloist for Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.”
The season concludes April 6 with “Youthful Legacy,” the Roy L. Halversen Young Artist Concert. Conducted by Adam Lambert and Carylee Zwang, the concert will showcase young soloists and concludes with the overture to Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville.”
With the exception of the Children’s Jubilee, all concerts are performed at 7:30 p.m. with lobby music beginning at 6:45 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $30 for groups of six. Season tickets are available at a price of $40 for adults and $25 for students at Cedar Music or the Heritage Theater or by calling (435) 233-8213. Children six and under are not allowed as concerts are recorded.
