American Legion Post 90Story and photos by Greta Hyland

There could not have been a more beautiful morning to remember those lost and those who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor Naval Base December 7th, 1941. American Legion Post 90 held a ceremony to commemorate the day President Roosevelt called the day of infamy and pulled a reluctant nation into World War II. On the Pearl Harbor memorial are names from southern Utah locals who died in the attacks. Veterans decked out in military regalia stood stoically during the ceremony, the gun salute, and listened quietly as a trumpet soloist played a solemn song. Families were also in attendance, many with flags. One old veteran grabbed my son by the shoulder and said, “Some day you are going to have to take over for me.” American Legion Post 90 not only remembered fallen comrades, but were models for the next generation who will someday serve. It was an honor to be in such company.
