Utah’s Own and the Small Business Development Center hosted a summit at Ancestor Square on Thursday morning. Locals wanting to start a business or those who have already started a business gathered to hear how they can be helped by resources that are available in the state, and by using the Utah’s Own brand name to help distinctly Utah products.

Speakers included Kevin Jones from Snap Daddy’s BBQ. Jones talked about how he grew up in Utah, and after returning to Utah, he started his BBQ sauce company, which was helped by Utah’s Own and the Small Business Development Center.

Also on hand, from the Utah State University Extension food quality office, was Karen Allen. Allen will help start-ups get the proper labeling and guidelines needed for proper label identification.

Utah’s Own is on a statewide tour helping promote their free outreach extensions and other resources for businesses who have a distinctly Utah product or idea but need the advice and the direction to make it a reality. With 680 companies ranging from farms and ranches to small mom-and-pop operations, Utah’s Own’s image and help have made many people’s dreams become a reality. If you have a start-up business needing guidance and advice, you can attend one of the many summits they are offering across the state, or you can go to utahsown.utah.gov or contact the Small Business Development Center at (435) 652-7741.
