Publisher's PerspectiveWritten by Josh Warburton

This month I’m going to use my space here for something a little bit different. I’d like to reach out to the local music community by way of a local album review contest. If you or someone you know is passionate about local music, a good writer, and capable of producing consistent quality reviews, this may be the gig for you.

All you have to do is signup on The Independent’s Facebook event page or email our editor Greta Hyland at [email protected] by Friday, February 20. You’ll then need to immediately pick up or request to receive a digital copy of the recent Bottled Monkey album to review. Reviews must be no longer than 600 words and be completed and emailed to Greta by the following Friday, February 27. All reviews will be posted on www.SUindependent.com as a feature on Sunday March 1 for people to read, vote and comment on.

The winner will be determined by The Independent’s editorial board, with comments on the site also weighing in as a factor, and will be announced on March 6 online and in print. Winner will receive the gig of reviewing local albums regularly for The Independent, a paying gig, and will also receive a $50 gift certificate at Groovacious and a stack of local CDs from Spiral Recording Studios. If you’re interested please let us know by February 20, and spread the word to anyone you think would be interested. Thanks everyone and happy reading!
