Rocky Vista University conducts Pre-Med Academy for high school students
By Kristen Kaiser
On June 26, Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in southern Utah opened its doors for the first time to high school seniors from the Washington and Iron County School Districts. RVU worked with academic counselors to find the selected high school seniors for the Pre-Med Academy.
These exceptional students needed to have a minimum of a 3.4 GPA and a letter of recommendation from an academic counselor as well as meeting several other requirements.
The program is a unique opportunity for exceptional healthcare-oriented high school seniors. These selected students will undergo an intensive three-day experience of medical school taught by our actual RVU faculty.
The Pre-Med Academy will give lectures and provide hands-on activities that will include physical exam skills, anatomy, suturing, injections, ultrasound, clinical simulations, and more. This will give the students an introduction to medical school, practices, and workshops.
