STRONG WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH A COLD FRONT TODAY

A strong cold front will sweep west to east across Utah today.
Gusty southerly winds ahead of the front this morning will turn to
the south-southwest behind the front and strengthen further late
this morning through late this evening.

WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 10 PM MDT
THIS EVENING.

The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Wind
Advisory…which is in effect from 10 AM this morning to 10 PM
MDT this evening.

* AFFECTED AREA…The western Uinta Basin, the valleys of extreme
southern and eastern Utah, including the Glen Canyon and Lake
Powell recreation areas and the San Rafael Swell.

* WINDS…Southwest winds 20-30 mph with gusts approaching 50 mph.

* TIMING…Strong and quite gusty southwest winds will develop
behind a passing cold front late this morning. The strongest
winds will occur this afternoon through around mid-evening.
Winds will gradually diminish late this evening.

* IMPACTS…Significant travel impacts are anticipated, especially
along west-to-east routes throughout the advisory area. Boater
on Lake Powell will experience hazardous conditions as winds
pick up during the day.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

A Wind Advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 31
mph or gusts of 45 mph are expected. Motorists in the advisory
area should be prepared for sudden gusty cross winds which can
make driving difficult.

The strong winds will create dangerous boating conditions on
area lakes. These winds will create very choppy water which will
impact small craft, especially on large lakes such as Lake Powell.
