Southern Utah University is sponsoring a free Outdoor Education Series running through Dec. 8. The one-hour lecture series will highlight outdoor opportunities from experts in the field. The Outdoor Education Series is every other Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the SUU Sharwan Smith Student Center Living Room unless otherwise noted.

Brad Kinross, Outdoor Education Series coordinator, organized the sessions to improve access to outdoor information for SUU students, faculty, staff, and the local community. Increasing people’s engagement and outdoor recreation is a primary institutional goal at SUU, according to Kinross, and SUU seeks to take advantage of its location among scenic state and national parks, monuments, and public lands.

On Sept. 29, there will be a joint seminar with SUU Convocations in the Great Hall in the Hunter Conference Center. The guest lecturer is Dayton Duncan, writer and co-producer of PBS Ken Burns documentary “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.”

Additional Outdoor Education Series topics include soundscapes in the parks, careers in wildlife management, preserving our night skies, and cross country skiing.

The Outdoor Education Series is sponsored by SUU’s Outdoor Engagement Center and the Outdoor Recreation in Parks and Tourism program. The fall 2016 Outdoor Education Series schedule is available at suu.edu/uc/outdoor.
