A feast for the eyes is planned for the St. George AAUW Scholarship Gala Dinner and Dance, “A Night of Inspiration,” from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the DiFiore Center. West Coast Jazz will provide music for the event. Dr. Richard Williams, president of Dixie State University, will speak along with Bonnie Jean Beesley, former chair of the Utah Board of Regents, and 2015 AAUW scholarship recipient Lauralyn VanWagoner.

Colorful appetizers like these get the eyes and mouth ready for an evening of fine dining.

Regarding the catering for the event, Jennifer Polanowski, who opened Just A Little Bite Cooking Company seven months ago in St. George, says this AAUW event has a personal connection to her beyond just her occupation.

“Every chef has nuances for the dishes they prepare and I have mine, but eating is a sensual experience that begins with the eyes,” Polanowski said. “It’s an adventure and preparing the food for the St. George AAUW’s Scholarship Gala is a highlight for me because they encourage and support what I have worked to be: skilled, self-reliant, and able to raise a family that makes me proud.”

The American Association of University Women is the nation’s leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. Since its inception in 1881, AAUW members have researched and taken positions on educational, social, economic, and political issues of the day. The AAUW St. George Utah Branch is an extension of the National AAUW. Founded in 1981, its mission is to help advance equity for women and girls in Utah through advocacy, philanthropy, and education. AAUW St. George Branch is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
