St. George celebrates LGBT community with Discover Pride festival

St. George’s annual LGBT celebration, themed “Discover Pride,” will take place Sept. 14–16 at various venues throughout Washington County. It is billed as an “inclusive, family friendly event” for residents of all sexual orientations.

The festival will begin Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. with a “Paint with Pride” painting event at Ricardo’s Restaurant.

On Sept. 15, a burlesque and drag show will be held at 7 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn. Proceeds will benefit the Youth Advocates of Southern Utah, an outreach program and drop-in center for homeless and struggling youth in the community. Participants must be at least 21 years of age. At 8 p.m., a neon rainbow dance party for all ages featuring DJ Lex will be held at the Washington City Recreation Center with proceeds directed toward the Dixie State University LGBT Student Association.

On Sept. 16 at 9 a.m. at the Roene B. DiFiore Center, an “interfaith pride service” will be held at the Southern Utah Community of Christ. A free pancake breakfast will follow. Afterwards, an event featuring food, belly dancing, and live music will take place 3 to 10 p.m. at Town Square Park. Attendees can visit booths hosted by various LGBT advocacy groups and event sponsors, including Equality Utah and the Mama Dragons.

The musical lineup comprises Jessican Manalo at 3:30 p.m., Pridetastic at 5, Pure Joy People at 6, The Barrick-Aid at 7, Kangaroo Court at 8, and Lisa Mac at 9.
