St. George construction I-15Construction is beginning on the I-15 Milepost 8-10 Auxiliary Lanes and Mall Drive Underpass project in St. George on Tuesday, May 31. The project was a part of the I-15 MP 0-16 Environmental Assessment and is the second priority project to receive funding.

The project will add an additional lane in each direction on I-15 from the St. George Boulevard Interchange (exit 8) to the Green Springs Interchange (exit 10) to alleviate congestion. It will provide a new underpass under the freeway in front of Red Cliffs Mall that will connect Red Cliffs Drive and Red Hills Parkway, improving access for local traffic trying to travel across the freeway, promoting regional mobility in this busy area of St. George, and alleviating congestion at the interchanges. It will also install new traffic signals on Red Cliffs Drive and Red Hills Parkway at the underpass location.

The project is a partnership between the Utah Department of Transportation and the City of St. George. The project is being constructed under an accelerated schedule with construction crews working during the day and night to open the new lanes and underpass by Thanksgiving 2016.

Maintaining traffic flow and minimizing construction impacts during peak travel times is a priority.

Daytime hours (6 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

All I-15 lanes will remain open during the daytime (two lanes in each direction).

All Red Cliffs Drive lanes will remain open during the daytime (two in each direction and a turn lane).

All Red Hills Parkway lanes will remain open during the daytime (one in each direction and a turn lane).

Nighttime hours (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.)

I-15 will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

Red Cliffs Drive will be reduced to three lanes (one in each direction and a turn lane).

Red Hills Parkway with maintain three open lanes (one in each direction and a turn lane).

UDOT and the City of St. George would like to remind the public to be aware of 24/7 work crews, lane shifts, other drivers, and pedestrians while traveling through all construction zones.

Construction activities, dates, and times are subject to change due to weather or delays. The latest information will be available at the project hotline at (435) 216-9755, from milepost8_10@utah.gov, or at udottraffic.utah.gov or udot.utah.gov/mp8-10.
