St. George Dance Company concert features St. George musical ensembles

The St. George Dance Company will collaborate with the St. George Chamber Singers and the Tuacahn High School Madrigals for a concert on Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dixie State University Eccles Concert Hall. The concert features Menotti’s “The Unicorn, the Gorgon, and the Manticore,” choreographed by St. George Dance Company’s Jenny Hendry Mair. The St. George Chamber Singers, Madrigals, and an orchestra composed of musicians from St. George and Las Vegas will present Fauré’s “Requiem.” The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert is directed by Paul Wiens, J.P. Kentros, and Mair.

Wiens conducted choirs at the college level for over 40 years. He earned a doctorate in music at the University of Iowa where he studied with Don V. Moses. He has retired to southern Utah and conducts the St. George Chamber Singers.

Kentros has been the choir director at Tuacahn High School since 2010. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Utah University in music education and theater education.

Mair, the choreographer, holds a bachelor’s degree in dance from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree dance performance and choreography from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Mair comes to southern Utah from Snow College where she was chair of dance. She is currently adjunct faculty of dance at Dixie State University.

DSU’s Eccles Concert Hall is located at 225 S 700 E in St. George.
