St. George Wine Club raises $700 for Dixie Care & Share

It is the Christmas season. Much is said this time of year about the “Christmas spirit” and the spirit of giving. It marks the birth of Christ and is a remembrance of the gift of His grace to the world. Stories of giving abound from the Wise Men who travelled bearing gifts, to the local food bank feeding the hungry, and while not many would connect wine to this spirit of giving, turning water into wine was the first publicly miraculous act displayed and given by Christ. Now nearly 2,000 years later, people are still using wine as a medium for blessing others.

Last night the St. George Wine Club met for their December gala at Arte Gallery and Framing for a fun Christmas party, and to raise money for Dixie Care & Share. Over 100 people showed up with their libations, hors d’oeuvres, and ugly sweaters for a good cause, to consume good wine and food, and to share it in good company.  The owners of Arte Gallery and Framing opened their doors for this festive event to take place and created a warm and beautiful ambiance for those in attendance. Stunning art hangs everywhere and added to the maxim that good wine and good art belong together.

And it was not just the St. George Wine Club in attendance; the Cedar City Wine Club was there too. The two clubs boast over 500 members and growing; in fact, they are in the process of merging all wine groups under one umbrella aptly titled, The Southern Utah Wine and Food club – so keep your ears open for news of its conception. In addition to a fee to get in, the wine club asked all in attendance to donate a little extra for Dixie Care and Share – and they did – raising $700.

Judaism might just have it right, wine is a holy drink. Not only does it warm, comfort, and inspire those who drink it, wine lends dignity and importance to an occasion, turning an ordinary Christmas party into an extraordinary one. The Wine Club may not have turned water into wine, but they turned wine into food for those who need it most.
