SUU hosts concert pianist Pierce Emata

Southern Utah University welcomes back pianist Pierce Emata, who will perform March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall in Cedar City. The concert is free and open to the public. Audience members will be treated to works by Bach, Mozart, Blumenfeld, Mandel, and Gershwin.
Based in Las Vegas, Emata received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music where he studied under Alfonso Montecino, John Ogdon, and Gyorgy Sebok. He also studied under John Simms, Loran Olsen, and Istvan Nadas.
Emata is active as a solo and orchestral performer and as an adjudicator for numerous competitions and music festivals across the country, including the Music Teachers National Association Southwest Division competition and the Steinway competition. In November 2017, he was invited to serve on the jury for the biennial National India MusiQuest Piano Competition. He is well known throughout many parts of the midwestern and western U.S. for his popular “Concerts & Conversation” series. His performances have also been broadcast over NPR affiliate stations in Washington, Nevada, Idaho, and South Dakota public radio. He is on the summer piano faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts where he teaches applied piano and conducts master classes.
