The SUU Music Department has announced its lineup of operatic, jazz, choral, and orchestral concerts for the 2015-16 school year. Be sure to mark you calendars with all of these diverse musical offerings.
SUU’s Music Masterworks series opens with the orchestra under the direction of Dr. Xun Sun performing Oct. 28.
On Oct. 30, in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, SUU’s choirs and wind ensemble will perform under the direction of Dr. Steve Meredith in his inaugural concert appearance. This event will include narration by SUU President Scott Wyatt and feature guest artists the Red Rock Singers and the Canyon View High School A Cappella Choir.
SUU’s entire music department presents its annual holiday concert on Dec. 4 featuring all the instrumental and vocal ensembles in one evening of song and music.
In 2016, SUU’s Concert and Women’s Choirs will perform under the direction of Dr. Steve Meredith and Jackie Jackson in a joint concert on Feb. 26.
In March, SUU Opera presents a fully-staged production of Mark Adamo‘s lyrical adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women,” directed by Carol Ann Modesitt. Running March 23-26, this contemporary opera tells the story of the tight-knit March sisters and their mother during the Civil War.
On April 1, the orchestra will perform with the Opus Chamber Choir under the direction Dr. Steve Meredith.
On April 13, the SUU jazz band will perform under the direction of Dr. Thomas Herb and with guest artist trumpet player Roger Ingram from the renowned Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.
The orchestra will perform April 15 featuring the SUU Wind Symphony directed by Dr. Adam Lambert.
All concerts will be held at the Heritage Center Theater at 7:30 p.m. Single ticket prices for all performances are $10 and $5 for students and children. All concerts qualify for the Flex Pass program. Six admissions can be purchased for $40. The Flex Pass can be used in any variation from a single entrance to one event to using all six entrances for one event. SUU faculty, staff, and students are admitted free to all theatre, dance, and music performances with a valid photo I.D. at entry. Faculty and staff are entitled to bring one guest with them. All seats are general admission. There is no reserve seating.
