Wildlands Network, First Light Films, and Conserve Southwest Utah, announced the Utah premiere of “Wild Ways” at 7 p.m. May 19 at The Electric Theater, located at 68 E. Tabernacle St. in St. George. The film highlights the wild landscapes of Southwestern Utah that lie along two of the most important wildlife habitat megalinkages in the West — connecting the Grand Canyon to both Yellowstone and central Idaho.

The film, shot by award-winning filmmaker James Brundige, captures the importance of habitat connectivity not only in Southwestern Utah but around the world, bringing the plight of the planet’s wildlife to a national and international audience.

“Wild Ways” ventures to some of the most storied landscapes on Earth to explore how protected corridors can help reassemble fragmented landscapes and give wildlife the room they need to roam. Through stunning images and powerful storytelling, the film showcases successes in connectivity conservation that can drive the political will and understanding needed for landscape-level habitat conservation.

Wildlands Network is currently working to implement wildlife corridors locally and nationally where species such as mule deer, elk, pronghorns, and cougars can roam safely.

The screening of “Wild Ways” will be preceded by a reception featuring light fare and followed by a discussion, lead by Brundige, of regional habitat connectivity efforts, challenges, and successes.

“The film has the wonderful capacity to use beautiful images and stirring music to communicate a point,” said Brundige. “Our mission at First Light Films is to inspire people to action. And in order to act, people really need hope. In ‘Wild Ways,’ we found people all over the world who are thinking globally but working locally to re-connect landscapes and leave room for wildlife.”
