8th Annual St. George Jazz Festival Featuring Saxophonist Sal Lozano
February 9 and 10, 2024.
The 8th Annual St George Jazz Festival returns with wonderful concerts and informative clinics. LA-based saxophonist Sal Lozano will be the featured guest artist for this year’s Festival. All events will take place on Utah Tech University’s campus.
Lozano is featured in a performance at the Eccles Fine Arts Center on Saturday, February 10, backed by the Rebel Jazz Band. Lozano is an educator at California State University Long Beach and in constant demand for performances nationwide, most notably with the Tom Kubis Big Band and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. A few of the artists he has recorded with include Paul McCartney, Natalie Cole, John Legend, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Michael Buble, and Maynard Ferguson.
“You’ve heard Lozano on Dancing with the Stars, La La Land, and The Incredibles. Now come hear him live at our Festival,” St George Jazz Artistic Director Glenn Webb says.
The Festival will feature a Live and Local evening on Friday, February 9, 2024. This will feature many of the exciting local jazz musicians who perform in the area. The 7:30 PM concert will include performances by the St George Jazz All Stars, the Sweet and Spicy Jazz-tet, and the George Staheli Memorial Jazz Band.
Educational clinics are presented free for students and the public on Saturday, February 10. Lozano will present a clinic at 2 PM in the Eccles MainStage Theater on the Utah Tech campus. Other clinics are provided by members of the Rebel Jazz Band at 11 AM on Saturday.
Tickets for the showcase concert featuring Sal Lozano are available at utahtech.edu/ticket-office. Tickets are $20 General Admission. Tickets for the Friday Live and Local Night are $10.

These incredible jazz musicians inspire and educate an ever-growing pool of talented young jazz students. Joined by the Rebel Jazz Band, these nationally acclaimed guest artists show off their skills at what continues to be Southern Utah’s most thrilling concert each year.
With tremendous performances and clinics by established heroes of the modern jazz world, anyone seeking an immersion in jazz will find immeasurable value in the St. George Jazz Festival. Middle school and high school jazz ensembles participate in a competition adjudicated by some of the finest jazz educators in the state of Utah. The top band of the high school division enjoys the opportunity to share the stage with legendary guest artists such as Eric Marienthal on saxophone (2017), Drew Tucker on vibraphone (2018), Wayne Bergeron on trumpet (2018), Andy Martin on trombone (2019), Chuck Findley on trumpet (2020), Bob Reynolds on saxophone (2020), John Daversa on trumpet (2022), and Francisco Torres on trombone (2023). Virtual guest artists in 2021 were Melissa Aldana on saxophone, Ben Rosenblum on piano, Rudreth Mahanthappa on saxophone, and Glen Marhevka on trumpet.
