Entertaining Audiences For Four Decades

August 17 & 18, 2024

For four decades, the Symphony of the Canyons has entertained audiences and supported a vast community of music lovers, musicians, and students of all ages and backgrounds.

Continuing a twenty-nine-year tradition, the Symphony of the Canyons will perform a summer concert on the back patio of the North Rim Lodge of the Grand Canyon this coming August 17, 5:30 PM, in Arizona. Then, the next day in Utah, they will perform at the beautiful Angels Landing outdoor amphitheater within Best Friends on August 18, 7 PM.

Aurelia Lunceford is conducting these summer-themed concerts, which include guest vocalists and beautiful classic songs from George Gershwin and Henry Mancini, e.g., Moon River, Summertime; movie themes, e.g. The Greatest Showman, Lord of the Rings; popular orchestral favorites from Mendelssohn and Grofe, e.g. A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Grand Canyon Suite; and patriotic traditions, e.g. Olympic Fanfare and Theme, God Bless the U.S.A.

The award-winning Symphony of the Canyons has performed numerous Broadway plays, classical symphonies, movie themes, jazz standards, the Nutcracker, Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas, rock ‘n’ roll (e.g., Led Zeppelin on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon complete with electric guitars and full orchestra), and classical concertos of many types, to name a few. It has performed all over Southern Utah. It has included many guest soloists and visiting artists, and it welcomes and encourages musicians of all ages. It joyfully provides a rich and diverse audience with an eclectic mix of beautiful and exciting sounds.

The symphony is an ongoing work of artistry in the midst of transition. Now comfortably settled into its new home at the Kanab Center, it continues to change, grow with the times, and nourish a growing community in an ever-changing world, building on the best of past traditions combined with the most powerful current trends. We encourage everyone to come listen, and anyone interested in being part of the ‘New’ Symphony of the Canyons orchestra or the teams that make performances and fundraisers possible.
