Heritage Choir Performing Songs For Christmas
December 22nd at 7 PM
The Heritage Choir Christmas concerts, featuring soprano Tennile Coello as guest soloist and titled “The Night of All Nights,” is a holiday gift to the community from the musical group considered the “musical crown jewel of Southern Utah”. Their beautifully inspirational musical program will be held first on Sunday, December 15 and repeated the following week on Sunday, December 22 at 7 PM. Admission is free and both performances will be held at the newly renovated St. George Tabernacle.
Coello, who has performed several times with local musical groups including the Southwest Symphony, is excited to be lending her voice to the Heritage Choir for the very first time.
According to the talented vocalist, she can’t remember a time growing up, when she wasn’t performing for family or friends at school or church, but her formal training began at age 17 when she “decided to focus on music in hopes of getting a scholarship.”
Her passion for music blossomed at Dixie State University, where she earned an associate degree and later a Bachelor of Arts degree at Utah State University, where she received the “Talent of the Year” Robins Award, presented to “the individual who demonstrates an outstanding mental endowment or superior capacity in the field of music, art, or theater.”
The 9-year resident of Hurricane who recently relocated to St. George earned a master’s degree in vocal performance at BYU and has also studied and performed around the U. S., England and Italy.
Under the masterful direction of Dr. Ken Peterson, with accompaniment provided by organist Karen Kennedy and Jennifer Redfearn at the piano, the 180-voice musical group’s holiday performance will feature a selection of well-loved carols and hymns as well as a few new pieces.
According to the choir’s conductor, “This concert will uplift and inspire, filling your heart and soul with love and joy through the beauty of Christmas music. We invite the community to join us for an unforgettable celebration of the season!”
For 30 years, The Southern Utah Heritage Choir has established itself as a strong and unified voice while demonstrating singing together is an essential part of society, providing a proven health benefit, and is an almost unparalleled means of creating community unity.
