Electric Film Series Continues Its Cinematic Time Travel Through 2025

By Elizabeth Gunter

The Electric Theater in downtown St. George is once again glowing with nostalgia as the 2025 Electric Film Series, hosted by the Film and Media Alliance of Southern Utah (FMASU), continues its decade-by-decade exploration of film history.

Now in its fifth year, the series has become a cornerstone of FMASU’s mission to connect the community through film. Each month’s screening showcases a thoughtfully selected movie that captures the tone, style, or cultural pulse of its respective decade—from the 1900s to the 2020s—with the year culminating in a classic holiday film.

More than just a screening, each event features a brief introduction and post-film discussion led by a special guest—whether that’s a filmmaker, scholar, or passionate cinephile. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, with optional food items from local vendors and the occasional surprise treat thrown in.

Screenings take place on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 PM, and the remaining 2025 dates include:

  • May 20
  • June 17
  • July 15
  • August 19
  • September 16
  • October 21
  • November 18
  • December 16

Held at the beautifully restored Electric Theater Center, the series is free and open to the public, with donations appreciated to help FMASU continue its community programming.

Whether you’re a lifelong cinephile or just discovering the joys of classic film, the Electric Film Series offers something meaningful: a shared experience that celebrates how cinema has shaped—and reflected—our collective story.
