The Southern Utah Heritage Choir is pleased to announce this year’s popular annual Flag Day concert, recognizing the adoption of the flag of the United States by the Continental Congress in 1777. In addition to celebrating the nation’s stars and stripes, “America, Land of Promise” will also honor our country’s veterans. The 5th concert of the 2025 season by the choir—called the “musical crown jewel of southern Utah”—will be held in the historic St. George Tabernacle on Friday, June 13, at 7:00 PM with a repeat performance on Saturday, June 14, at 2:00 PM. Admission is free and seating is open to music lovers throughout the community.

Guest speaker David Houston, who will take to the podium to share his thoughts on the principles of freedom and patriotism, served his country as a member of the U.S. Army 19th Special Forces Group for four years and the U.S. Marine Corps for 28 years. He is a proud veteran and dedicated patriot who believes Americans are blessed to live in the greatest nation in the world.

Under the masterful direction of Dr. Ken Peterson and accompanied by Jennifer Redfern on piano and organist Karen Kennedy, the 180-voice choir will perform a powerful lineup of inspiring musical selections, including beloved classics such as “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “God of Our Fathers, Whose Almighty Hand,” “Bound for the Promised Land,” “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor,” “Salute to the Armed Forces” and other patriotic favorites.

In addition, the choir will debut two new pieces: “A Bronze Triptych” and “Words of Lincoln.”

In more than three decades, the Southern Utah Heritage Choir has established itself as a strong and unified voice while demonstrating the value of singing together as an essential part of society, a proven health benefit, and an almost unparalleled means of creating community unity.

In the words of Dr. Ken Peterson, Director, “I continue to be inspired by the deep and abiding love so many hold for this great nation—its founding principles, its cherished freedoms, and the light it offers the world. We share these feelings of patriotism and invite you to bring family and friends to this special event as we honor our nation’s heroes and reflect on the promises which make America a land of hope and opportunity.”
