The Forsyth Fire, ignited by lightning on June 19, has now grown to 10,673 acres with 8% containment. Progress and Community Update
As of 10 AM today, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office lifted the “Go” evacuation order for Pine Valley, Grass Valley, and Gray’s Ranch. While residents may return, these areas remain closed to non-residents. Officials ask the public to respect posted closures and allow firefighters to safely conduct operations.
Fire crews have made significant progress near Pine Valley, particularly in securing containment lines to the south of the community and near the Saddle Fire burn scar. Additional support was delivered by helicopter on Thursday, enhancing containment efforts in challenging terrain. Helicopters also assisted with water bucket drops where ground crews were active.
In the northeast near Grass Valley, mop-up efforts continue, while interior pockets in the Pine Valley Recreation Area are being secured. On the eastern flank, firefighters are actively evaluating fire conditions within the Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness, monitoring for safe engagement as heat and winds increase.
Weather Outlook and Fire Behavior
High temperatures and gusty southwest winds up to 25 mph are expected today, increasing fire activity. The weekend forecast shows continued warming with potential dry lightning and storms early next week, which may escalate fire behavior due to extremely dry vegetation.
