The Vegetarian Society of Utah August monthly education program will be a presentation by Barbara J. Mathison, “Fasting: Is It Right for You?” On Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at the St. George Community Building located at 245 N. 200 W, Mathison will share her health results from water fasting at TrueNorth Health Center.
TrueNorth Health Center was founded in 1984 by Drs. Alan Goldhamer and Jennifer Marano. The integrative medicine approach they established offers participants the opportunity to obtain evaluation and treatment for a wide variety of problems. The staff at TrueNorth Health Center includes medical doctors, osteopaths, chiropractors, naturopaths, psychologists, research scientists, and other health professionals. The center is now the largest facility in the world that specializes in medically supervised water fasting.
Following the short presentation on TrueNorth, Mathison will demonstrate how to prepare a few simple dishes that will make six quick and easy meals for one or for a family All the recipes will include no added salt, oil, or sugar to whole food plant-based dishes for optimum weight loss and health maintenance.
The society also hosts a vegan potluck at 6 p.m. on the second Saturday of every month in the St. George Community Building. Participants are asked to bring a vegan dish that serves eight to 10 people as well as a printed recipe or a list of ingredients.
The Vegetarian Society of Utah is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that educates interested individuals, organizations, and the general public about the values and benefits of vegetarianism. The organization also provides support and social activities for vegetarian- and vegan-oriented people in southern Utah.
