Do the striking landscapes and quiet power of Zion spark your creativity? Artists inspired by desert light, towering sandstone walls, and a strong sense of place are invited to apply for the 2025 Artist-in-Residence program at Zion National Park.
The application period opens June 1 and runs through July 19, 2024. Two artists will be selected to participate in month-long residencies during one of three available timeframes: February 2025, June 2025, or mid-October to mid-November 2025.
The program is open to professional artists who are American citizens or U.S. permanent residents. Applicants can visit the online application portal to review program requirements, submit portfolio work, and complete their application. The two 2025 Artists-in-Residence will be announced in fall 2024.
About the Zion Artist-in-Residence Program
Zion Artists-in-Residence live and work inside the park for one month, fully immersed in the majestic desert environment of Southern Utah. The program provides artists with park housing at no cost, allowing participants to focus on their creative practice while drawing inspiration directly from the landscape.
Community engagement is a key part of the residency. Each Artist-in-Residence presents two public programs tailored to their medium, interests, and experience. These may include artist talks, open studio hours, or informal interactions with visitors at or near trailheads. During their residency, artists serve as part of the Volunteers-in-Parks program and wear National Park Service volunteer uniforms.
Within six months of completing their residency, each artist submits an original work inspired by their time at Zion. These pieces may be added to the park’s permanent museum or interpretive collections or, in partnership with the Zion National Park Forever Project, may be used to financially support the Artist-in-Residence program.
More information about eligibility, residency expectations, and how to apply is available through Zion National Park’s official Artist-in-Residence application portal.
