In support of the 81st Annual St. George Lions Dixie Roundup Rodeo in September, George Streetfest on Main is going country.
On Sept. 4, the downtown St. George event will get the party started by bringing country music to the Main Street stage, farm-style activities to the George Jr. Village, and a George Cowboy-Cowgirl Hat Contest. Participants are invited to wear their favorite cowboy hats for the chance to win country prizes. Voting will take place at the stage at 8 p.m.
The Main Street Concert will feature three bands performing country style, including Utah’s own Whiskey Tooth and Lyndy Butler. Courtney Marie Andrews of Seattle will headline the event. Andrews is known for her strong country roots style, sounds of the Rocky Mountains, and a rambler’s range. She is a storyteller whose lyrics combine with immaculate guitar work.
The Jazz Garden, the 21-and-older-only venue of George First Friday Streetfest, will feature guest vocalist Jim Griffith of Provo. Compared to the likes of Mel Torme and Tony Bennett, Griffith has been singing jazz ballads for more than 50 years. Accompanied by West Coast Jazz, Griffith will perform renditions of some of the most loved jazz standards of the ‘40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s.
“We are excited to support community events like the Dixie Roundup,” said Streetfest presenter Melynda Thorpe. “George Streetfest is designed to bring the community together one night each month and to celebrate who we are. In September, we plan to be just a little bit country in support of the Roundup, and we’re downright looking forward to it.”
Join the festivities at George Streetfest on Sept. 4. Then keep your saddles ready for the Dixie Roundup Rodeo at the Dixie Sunbowl Sept. 17 through 19 with a parade on Sept. 19 at 9 a.m.
UPDATE TO JAZZ GARDEN LINEUP:
“Fans of both jazz and cowboy music will have an unique opportunity to enjoy some of the best of both on one night,” said Jazz Garden host and West Coast Jazz Player’s bassist, Carlyle Potter. Singer and Storyteller Ed Montana will be joining the West Coast Jazz Players in the George Streetfest Jazz Garden.
