As a part of the weekly SUU Art Insights lecture series, Sang-Duck Seo, an internationally acclaimed a graphic and media designer, will offer a presentation on Thursday, Oct. 8. In addition to his artistic endeavors, Seo is also a respected educator who firmly believes that his students’ achievements are connected to his success. Seo’s presentation will take place in SUU’s Auditorium Theatre at 7 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Seo is an associate professor of art in the Graphic Design and Media program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. As an educator, Seo was awarded the Lincy Professorship and UNLV Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award for his academic accomplishment. Seo has also developed a design curriculum and disciplines from his professional experiences in industrial graphic design for Samsung and GM Daewoo Motors. He is also one of 200 security designers around the world and has conducted many national projects for the Korea Mint as an associate researcher. Before he came to the United States, he participated in the project, “The Korean Banknote Design,” for which the new currency was unveiled in 2007.

Seo has presented various research articles and design works in international design conferences and exhibitions, and his projects were recently exhibited in Paris, China, and Japan. He continues to create design works interpreting design theory and method. His research has been expanded to a variety of design topics, including kinetic typography, brand identity, and security printing design. He is currently a candidate for a Ph.D. in Human Computer Interaction at Iowa State University. His dissertation is about the study of “Digilog (Analog + Digital) Interface.”

Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings.
