Following up on last year’s successful inaugural event, the second annual SUU Southern Utah Day of Dance is being presented by the SUU department of theater and dance and coordinated by student Jorden Bayless. High school dancers are invited to explore their energy and creativity through a series of workshops designed to help prospective dance students learn more about SUU and its dance program. Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., these classes and workshops will be held in the Southern Utah University Multipurpose Center’s dance labs.
SUU dance faculty members, along with alumni and students, have devised a series of workshops and classes led by dance faculty, alumni, and current students, including Kay Andersen, Megan Brunsvold, Patricia Meredith, and Denise Purvis. Dancers can register for beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes. Workshops and classes include ballet, modern dance, jazz, ballroom dancing, conditioning, and more.
The workshops are free, but online registration is required. Students are expected to wear appropriate dancewear and shoes or clothes that they can move in.
The SUU Southern Utah Day of Dance is held during “Creative Variations: An Original Student-Choreographed Dance Concert,” which runs Nov. 11-14 and Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 14. Participants in the Day of Dance can receive a discount. For questions, registration via email, or discount tickets, email Jorden Bayless at sudofd@gmail.com.
