St. George Book Festival celebrates the wonderful world of literature

The Independent

In just two years, the St. George Book Festival has become the second-largest book and literacy event in Utah. Director Virginia Grenier and co-chairman David Smith have created a week-long event that highlights the art of reading, writing, and publishing.

Kicking off the festival is “Authorpalooza” at Barnes & Noble on Monday, Oct. 20 from 4-7 p.m. Writers of all abilities can enter the writing and poetry contest. For aspiring writers, the St. George Writer’s Workshop is a free event at Dixie State University on Friday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A charity dinner will treat attendees to an intimate dinner setting with a dozen authors, honorary guest Mayor Jon Pike and his wife, Kristy, and keynote speaker Dean Hughes, an author of over 100 published books.

The featured event of the festival is the Book Expo, held all day Saturday, Oct. 25 at the St. George Children’s Museum. Join over 40 authors who will be on hand to sign books. Speakers, entertainment, and prizes will be part of the expo throughout the day.
