Girls on the Run Southern Utah’s spring season begins Monday, Jan. 25, and the group is busily preparing for another season, having expanded to a total of five sites in Washington County. Prospective participants can join in on the spring 2016 season by registering a child, becoming a coach, or donating to fund the scholarship program.
Girls on the Run envisions a world in which all girls know and activate their limitless potential and works to make that vision — one where girls can navigate their lives with confidence and joy — a reality. Girls on the Run Southern Utah provides a safe and enriching environment for girls in third through fifth grade to learn the skills necessary to become confident and capable in whatever they choose to do. Each 10-week program culminates in a 5K wherein girls celebrate their commitment to their goals by running this race with their family, friends, and the community.
Girls on the Run Southern Utah teams consist of 8 to 15 girls who meet twice weekly for 90 minutes per session and are led by three coaches. Teams meet directly after school. Each school time is different. Coaches must be at least 18 years old, available for both practices per week, and attend coach training. Registration is $150 per child and scholarships are available. Currently they are accepting registration at Vista Charter, Red Mountain Elementary, Arrowhead Elementary, Sandstone Elementary, and Washington City Community Center. Girls on the Run Southern Utah is run entirely by volunteers, and they are currently accepting applications for the following positions: head coach, assistant coach, and junior coach. To volunteer as a coach, please click here.
Gifts to Girls on the Run provide the revenue needed to support key program delivery requirements including program materials, curriculum development, outreach to under served communities and grants to ensure that all girls have the opportunity to participate in this transformational program.
